Materials & Metals

We primarily use 925 sterling silver as a core material in our jewellery. Sterling silver is durable, long-lasting, and recyclable, making it a more conscious choice for pieces designed to be kept and worn repeatedly.

Our gold-plated jewellery is finished with a 2 micron thick gold plating, designed for increased durability compared to standard fashion jewellery plating. This supports our intention to create pieces made for longevity rather than short-term wear.

Interchangeable Design Philosophy

A core part of Oceans Etch is our modular, interchangeable jewellery system.

Our charms are designed to be worn across multiple pieces, including:

• multi-use styling such as body or bikini adornment

This system encourages reuse and versatility, allowing one set of charms to create multiple looks across different pieces. Rather than encouraging overconsumption, we focus on adaptability, longevity, and emotional connection to fewer, more meaningful items.

Natural & Reclaimed Elements

Where natural materials are used, they are approached with care and respect.

• Seashells are hand collected from local beaches, only when already naturally broken or washed ashore
• Sea glass and small found materials are thoughtfully gathered and transformed into new wearable forms

Each piece reflects natural transformation — materials shaped by the ocean, reimagined into something new.

Packaging

Our packaging has been thoughtfully considered to reduce unnecessary environmental impact while maintaining a premium unboxing experience.

We use a combination of:

Kraft Paper

Kraft paper is used wherever possible due to its minimal processing and high recyclability. It is strong, biodegradable, and widely accepted in recycling systems, making it a lower-impact alternative to coated or plastic-heavy packaging materials.

Cotton & Linen

Where fabric elements are used, we prioritise cotton and linen materials. These natural fibres are:

• biodegradable and renewable
• durable for reuse (customers can repurpose pouches)
• lower-impact alternatives to synthetic fabrics
• breathable, helping protect jewellery without requiring plastic lining

These materials allow packaging to feel elevated and tactile while still aligning with more responsible material choices.

Together, these packaging elements are chosen to balance protection, aesthetics, and reduced environmental impact.

Care & Longevity

Every order includes paper-based care guidance to help extend the life of your jewellery.

We encourage customers to:
