Every Oceans Etch piece is designed to carry a small fragment of the ocean with you.
Crafted from 925 sterling silver, finished with 2 micron 18k gold plating, and protected with a durable nano e-coating, our jewellery is created with longevity in mind. Many pieces also feature real handpicked sea glass and seashell fragments, making many designs naturally unique.
Because we work with precious metals and natural ocean elements, gentle care will help preserve the beauty and lifespan of your jewellery over time.
Natural textures, irregularities, soft markings, and variations in shape or colour are all part of the story behind each piece, perfectly imperfect, just like nature itself.
Caring For Your Jewellery
Everyday Wear
While our jewellery is designed for everyday wear, regular exposure to chlorine and chemicals may gradually affect metals, plating, coatings, and natural materials over time.
If worn in the ocean, gently rinse your piece with fresh water afterwards and dry with a soft cloth.
Metal Care
925 Sterling Silver
Our sterling silver pieces are made from 925 sterling silver, a durable precious metal designed to be worn and loved for years to come.
Sterling silver may naturally oxidise or darken over time when exposed to air and moisture. This is a completely natural process and can usually be refreshed with gentle polishing.
Interestingly, regular wear can often help prevent tarnish buildup that sometimes develops during long periods of storage.
To care for sterling silver:
- polish gently using your cleaning cloth
- store in a dry environment
18k Gold Plating
Our gold-plated pieces feature a thick 2 micron layer of 18k gold, designed for improved longevity compared to standard fashion jewellery plating.
All gold plating naturally softens over time depending on wear, skin chemistry, moisture exposure, and friction.
To help preserve your gold finish:
- avoid chemical exposure where possible
- store pieces separately to minimise scratching
- gently wipe clean after wear
Our additional nano e-coating helps provide extra protection and durability, supporting longer wearability with proper care.
Sea Glass & Seashell Fragments
Many Ocean Setch pieces include real handpicked sea glass and seashell fragments collected from coastal environments.
These natural elements have already been shaped by time, tides, weather, and movement before becoming part of your jewellery.
Because of this:
- no two pieces will ever be identical
- natural markings, textures, cracks, and asymmetry may occur
- slight imperfections are part of their individuality and beauty
To care for natural elements:
- avoid dropping or applying direct pressure
- store carefully to minimise impact
- avoid prolonged soaking or harsh cleaning products
Like the ocean itself, these materials are delicate, resilient, and shaped through time.
Cleaning Your Jewellery
For regular maintenance:
- gently polish with your included soft cleaning cloth
For a deeper clean:
- briefly rinse metal components in mild soapy water
- dry thoroughly before storing
- avoid soaking pieces for extended periods
We do not recommend frequent deep cleaning, as excessive moisture may gradually affect plating and natural materials over time.
Storage
Store your jewellery in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, humidity, and moisture.
To help preserve your pieces:
- keep jewellery separated where possible
- fasten necklace clasps before storing
- avoid storing pieces tangled together
- store away from damp environments such as bathrooms
Proper storage can help slow oxidation, minimise scratching, and extend the life of your jewellery.
End of Life & Recycling
We believe jewellery should be treasured, repaired, reused, or responsibly recycled wherever possible.
If your Ocean Setch piece reaches the end of its life, we encourage you to:
- return it to a local jeweller or precious metal recycler
- repurpose or repair the piece
- or send it back to us for responsible recycling or material recovery
We also offer a $20 store credit recycling program for eligible returned Oceans Etch pieces as part of our commitment to circular design and reducing unnecessary waste.
Because extending the life cycle of materials will always be the most sustainable choice.
